Herbal Breast Enhancement - The Facts Behind The Herbs, Pills, and Supplements

Any woman who has ever put on an ill-fitting top, or just wanted a confidence boost that a larger bust can bring has probably thought about a herbal breast enhancement, or even breast enhancing surgery at some point or another. However, surgery has its drawbacks, and for most women, it simply isn't an option. Even for those who have the means don't always want to go under the knife to receive synthetic implants. So finding a pill, food, or herb that can increase breast size is a desire of many women around the world.

Now, there are many herbal supplements and pill manufactures that claim to have a pill that can increase breast size, but many of these have dangers or simply don't work for many women. So the big question is...what herbs or natural methods (if any) can ACTUALLY increase breast size? Well, lets take a look at some herbs that are often used to increase breast size, and why they work at all.

The idea behind natural and herbal breast enhancement:

Although none of the herbs or natural approaches to increasing breast size are as dramatic as breast implants, there is some evidence that there are herbs that may increase breast size for some women. The idea is that some herbs do in fact increase female hormone levels. This increase in estrogen and other female hormones can stimulate breast growth, much like taking hormone replacement therapy, or a high hormone dose birth control pill.

Fenugreek seeds -

Fenugreek is a herb native to the middle east and India, and legend has it that fenugreek was given to harems as herbal breast enhancers.

The Real Deal: Fenugreek is often used in pills and supplements that claim to increase breast size, however, no clinical trials have been properly conducted to prove or disprove this rumor. There is however some promise... fenugreek seeds contain a compound called diosgenin, which HAS been clinically studied and can become estrogen and progesterone, but there is no mechanism for this to happen in the body, only in a lab. For many women, estrogen increases can stimulate breast tissue increases. So if fenugreek could theoretically increase estrogen in the blood, but it probably doesn't work in the body. Also, fenugreek seeds have undergone limited clinical studies in humans with regards to increasing breast milk production, and they can stimulate production of breast milk.

Dangers: People with a peanut allergy or soy allergy can be allergic to fenugreek. It can also cause diarrhea and gas, and should not be taken by anyone who is diabetic, or taking medication for hypoglycemia.

Dosage: Ok, it is dangerous to exceed 5,000 mg a day, but to experience any potential for breast enlargement, one would take about 3,000 mg a day. This is a fine line between what some say you need, and others say is dangerous. Mind you, this is NOT medical advice, only facts and research based on other peoples recommendations and warning. It is best to spread out the intake of fenugreek over a period of 3 times in a day.

Fennel -

Fennel seeds have long been used by women to increase libido, increase breast milk production, and to increase fertility. Fennel is known to increase female hormone levels.

The Real Deal: Although there have been no studies in humans regarding fennel and breast enlargement, there are animal studies which demonstrate an increase in breast tissue. In one study conducted, female rats were fed fennel for 10 days. At the end of this period, the rats breast tissue had increased in weight. Also in the 1930's, fennel was considered a possible herb from which to make hormones from.

Dangers: Fennel can interfere with cipro, and possibly other drugs that are chemically related to cipro. If you take this antibiotic, do not take fennel.

Dosage: There is no "proper" dosage, but somewhere between 500 mg and 1500 mg a day, taken over the course of 2 - 3 times a day to achieve any possible herbal breast enhancement. (so, 175 mg - 500 mg capsules taken 3 times a day)

Hops -

Hops are well known as the main ingredient in beer, however, they are often used in breast enhancement pills because they contain a very potent phytoestrogen compound. This phytoestrogen compound can increase estrogen leveles in the bloodstream. There have been one animal study that demonstrated an increase of female hormones in rats, and two human studies. Although limited in their scope, and more detailed studies are needed, hops did demonstrate some potential to increase breast size for women over the age of 35, women who have had 1 or more children, and women who take hormonal birth control. None of these studies were big enough or conclusive enough to say hops can increase breast size, but there is some interesting potential for herbal breast enhancement.

Dangers: hops can cause drowsiness, and should be avoided by anyone who experiences or suffers from depression. Hops can also affect the way the body interacts with prescription and OTC drugs, such as cholesterol medications, cancer medications, birth control pills, and anti-fungal drugs.

Dosage: Approx 1700 mg a day, containing 1% of the active compound prenylflavonoid xanthohumol. This can be take 4 times a day, in 425mg doses.
