Ginger:

Ginger has been taken for a variety of ailments, including inflammation. There is good news about ginger and its ability to treat arthritis symptoms. In a study conducted on 261 people with osteoarthritis of the knee, the results were good. When ginger is taken twice a day over a period of time, there is less arthritis pain, and less need for pain medications. Several studies have demonstrated similar results, though there is one that couldn't find any proof that ginger was better than the placebo. However, most studies agree, making ginger a legitimate option as a home remedy for arthritis relief.

For arthritis it is recommended to take 2 - 4 grams of ginger per day as a tea, extract, or juice. Some have found relief rubbing ginger oil onto painful joints, though the evidence is anecdotal.

Cherry Juice:

Cherry juice (primarily black cherry juice) is used by some to act as a home remedy for arthritis. There have been two small studies that have shown cherry juice may be able to decrease pain and inflammation due to gout, a specific type of arthritis. But these are limited studies, and no conclusive evidence has pointed out relief to other forms of arthritis. If you choose to try it out, drink about 4 oz. every day, for 2-3 months. It can take a while to see any results.

Boswellia:

Evening Primrose Oil:

For Rhuematoid Arthritis, there may be no better herbal remedy. University of Pennsylvania researchers studied 37 people with R.A., and gave some of them evening primrose oil, and the rest a placebo. The group that received the evening primrose oil had a 45% decrease in pain, with no noticeable side effects. The placebo group had no improvement. There have been additional studies using GLA (the active ingredient in evening primrose oil) and they have similar results, so this can be a potential great home remedy for arthritis. However, consult your doctor before trying anything for R.A.

Tumeric:

Tumeric, the indian spice contains a chemical called curcumin that makes it yellow. It also is a strong anti-inflammatory. When combined with Boswellia, it can be a potent herbal remedy for osteoarthritis. This was studied by researchers at Indias central drug research institute.

These herbs all have preliminary or substantial research that have demonstrated that they work to help relieve arthritis pain and discomfort. Talk to a doctor before taking any of these herbal home remedies for arthritis.
